Back to Cultural Diversity home African Americans Individuals of African origin comprise approximately 14% of the population in the United States. Freshwater is indispensable for humans; water scarcity currently endangers food production throughout the Earth. It is also the foundation for substantial biological diversity . In a vibrant, multicultural society, representing the richness of students’ lives in a class or school library takes a conscious effort. Including writers and fictional characters with a variety of backgrounds, beliefs, and life circumstances is a way to increase the chances that students will find both windows and mirrors in the library—books that reflect their lives, and ones that give.

The survey found that parents were more likely to want more diverse book characters in (29 percent) than in (21 percent). Children ages wanting greater diversity . they occur less as isolated lessons in reading or counting, for example, than in the context of on-going activities of family life. This research strongly suggests that efforts to create effective classroom environments for young children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds should be based, in part, on knowledge about the role that culture plays in shaping children's learning.

We analyze patterns of richness and the conservation status of African dragonflies and damselflies (Insecta: Odonata), commonly referred to as dragonflies, to determine threats to species and freshwater habitats, location of diversity hotspots, necessary.

Wilson has laid and elegant and ingratiating literary style over a fundament of science to produce a book that will enlighten the uninformed, correct the misinformed and serve as a beacon of lucidity in Reviews:   The Diversity of Life is a practical book (a book that shows you how to do something).

The first part of the book (well over 3/4) is devoted to a general overview of evolution - its history, the mechanisms through which it works, and particularly the process of extinction. The last part is a plea, an argument to save our planet's biodiversity/5().

Finally, I tried to stick to books that don’t just include a diverse cast, but actively teach about diversity and inclusion. I do think that books like Everywhere Babies by Susan Meyers that include diverse families without actively teaching about diversity are also great additions to any kids’ library, as well as general books about celebrating difference, like It’s Okay To Be Different.
